Kitchen Addition For A Historic Home
Sometimes, what you want in your dream kitchen won't fit in your existing space. A major addition is required. That's what was needed for this century old home in the Pasadena area.
As you look at the "after photos" below, notice the old world details. This addition blends seamlessly with the rest of this historic home.
The stained walnut countertop on the island combined with the custom cabinetry instantly spells old world charm. We selected Absolute Black granite for the wall hugging countertops next to the sink and range.
The Rohl farmhouse sink with Rohl faucet has wood detailing underneath it.
On the range wall, handmade subway tile in a mellow yellow color is a nice accent. The Rohl pot filler saves time when boiling water or steaming vegetables. The 48" Viking range is perfect for serving up wonderful meals.
Open shelves are functional but lighten the look of a wall of cabinetry.
The custom plate rack is suspended from the V-groove plank ceiling and hangs over the island. The plate rack is painted white with stained wood dividers. This same design element is repeated with the wall cabinet plate rack. A hidden appliance garage sits at countertop level directly below the plate and cup rack.

A cozy nook with built-in seating offers more storage in this generous kitchen. Next to the kitchen table, there are open shelves for cookbooks and a special spot for pet food storage and doggie dishes.
Woven blinds filter the bright sunlight coming in from the French doors that lead to the patio and pool side dining.
The pantry is separated by a glass paneled door with etched lettering. The traditional walnut bar top and metal sink add to the old world charm of this space. Exposed hinges highlight the inset cabinet doors.
Small hexagon tiles line the floor in this space. Antique lighting and hardware finish off the look.
A lot of people think of the kitchen as command central. Having a built-in desk with printer, file storage, and plenty of room for phone lists and directories is a must for many busy families.
