5 Decorating Ideas To Instantly Update Your Home

Here are 5 easy ideas from the showcase house that you can use to update your rooms.

#1 Warm up your walls.

The cheapest option is to pick a great paint color. If you want a no-fail color for your walls, use Farrow & Ball paints. Their colors are so beautiful, you can’t go wrong. A more costly approach is to wallpaper one or more of the walls in the room. Wallpaper adds texture and color to your walls. An expensive but wonderful option is to upholster your walls with fabric which absorbs sounds and adds luxury to any space.

#2 Add a pop of color to each room.

An inexpensive throw pillow or blanket in a bright color wakes up any space. If you’re ready to make a bigger commitment to color, buy porcelain lamps in a bold color. If it’s in the budget, add colorful original art to your room.

#3 Say “yes” to window coverings.

For inexpensive but attractive window coverings, use store bought matchstick or woven shades with custom fabric valances. Ready-made full length drapes with attractive wrought iron or wood hardware look expensive but they’re a great mid-price option. Splurge on custom fabric Roman shades or drapes with fancy trims that will elevate your windows to works of art.

#4 Add lots of light.

The least expensive way to do this is to add table lamps everywhere. More costly but also more interesting is to add at least one floor lamp to your room. The most expensive option well worth the splurge is to invest in high quality hardwired wall sconces and ceiling fixtures.

#5 Mix old and new.

For a cheap and chic way to do this, use vintage flee market art with inexpensive contemporary furnishings. It’s more costly but beautiful to use antique wooden accessories like boxes, bowls, and trays with modern furniture. Mixing antique furniture with original contemporary art and modern light fixtures is expensive but absolutely fabulous.
