5 Secrets For Pampering Your House Guests & Yourself

Are you having house guests sometime this year? The more you prepare, the more fun you’ll have when they visit. So read on. Here are 5 ways to spoil them and make life even better for yourself, in the process. Spoil Your House Guests and Yourself With These Ideas

#1 Never assume your guests will like the same things you do.

You’ve put clean sheets on the bed and fresh towels in the bathroom. Maybe you have down pillows and a comforter out. Everything is just the way you like it. But wait! Your guests may have allergies. Or they may prefer firmer pillows and thin, cotton blankets. Don’t assume they’ll like the same things you do. In fact, when was the last time you tried something different? You might like something new, too. Explore some other options. What about a firmer or softer pillow? What about some lighter blankets? Have some fun trying out a few new things in your home, for you and your guests.

#2 Don’t forget late night munchies.

Even though you’re making a delicious dinner and dessert, don’t assume your house guests won’t be hungry in the middle of the night. Give your guests some late night snacks and drinks. Spoil them with a pretty tray of small bites you can leave on a bedside table, along with some magazines and books in case they can’t sleep. But don’t stop there. Think about pampering yourself with a new tray on your nightstand, a beautiful water carafe and a new selection of reading. Have fun with your update.

#3 Make sure they’re in control.

If it’s possible, show them how to adjust the heating or air conditioning in their room along with anything else they can open or close. Hopefully, you have good window coverings so that they can be comfortable in their new surroundings. Make sure you have all the same comforts and more. What about the window coverings in your other rooms? If they need to be upgraded and you don’t know what to do, let’s talk. We would love to brainstorm with you on solutions that give you the privacy, light and thermal control you need.

#4 Remember what they’ll forget.

Like all the best hotels, have a stash of the essentials in case they forget something at home. Your guests will be so happy you remembered for them. How often do we forget the extras for ourselves? If your robe is torn or tattered and your slippers look like they’ve been through the mud, it’s time to invest in some of these essentials for yourself.

#5 Put your room to use all year ~ not just for guests.

Think about a room you wish you had in your home and how you could use guest space this way. When you make rooms multifunctional, you’ll like them better. It’s fun to mix things up instead of always using the same space the same way. For instance, do you need a place to wrap presents during certain times of the year like the holidays? What about creating a wrapping station where you house guests? Or do you long for a quiet space of your own within your busy household? Built-in bookcases, desks, and Murphy beds that fold up may be the solution for you. They can make a small space live large. Or try a daybed that can double as a sofa or reading nook. A daybed with a pop-up trundle can be made into a king bed by moving the mattresses side by side. We love the photo above from Country Living Magazine because it shows a beautiful guest area that’s small and leaves room for other activities. We encourage you to spoil yourself as much as your house guests. Don’t save rooms. Use all your space. You’re worth it!
